Just got mine yesterday.

Anyone else think the speakers are terrible?

It's like listening through a tin can...

Tablets have never been great speaker wise. The major complaint is the sound vibrates the iPad badly. Too much bass for such a paper thin chassis.

WAY better than the iPad 2 and iPad 4 I used previously.

I'm an audio guy, so I had very low expectations, but these were far exceeded by the Air 2

It was one of the things that stopped me from buying it. None of Apples tablets have good sound, but this one is particularly tinny.
I bought an Acer a couple of years ago and the sound was really good, so I can't understand why Apple can't stick a couple decent speakers in their tablets, they've only just climbed up from mono.
I suppose Apple has to think of their margin, they're on the verge of going bankrupt.

The speakers on the hdx 7 and hdx 8.9 are astounding. I like ipads, but it's amazing you pay a premium to have a crappy media experience. They've had many generations to give good speakers.

Actually the Kindle Fire HD has really solid audio even from the speakers especially with Dolby. It sounds way better than any of my iPad's.

Google Nexus 9 will by out next week in US. Bet is sounds good and does not vibrate.

HDX 8.9" sounds very good and is lighter than Air. :)

Thickness does have a little to do with it, but many manufacturers are able to bring out phones with decent sound like my HTC M8 so why can't Apple do the same with a tablet. They're either incapable or too tight with their money.
