iPad iPad Air 2 Touch ID Not Working

The Touch ID on my iPad Aur 2 hasn't been working consistently. I don't mean that it isn't recognizing my fingerprint, but actually not even activating. I tested this by attempting to add a new fingerprint and it wouldn't start the process. I also tried unlocking the iPad with a finger that I don't have registered and it did not tell me that it was an unrecognized finger it just didnt read the finger at all. Turning the iPad off and then back on will get Touch ID working for a little while and then it will stop working again. Has anyone else had these same issues?

Take it back to apple and they will give you a new one
