I've been trying to get an idea of where the upcoming iPad Pro 9.7" is going to be priced.

Currently iPad starting prices (USD)
  • Mini 2 $269
  • Mini 4 $399
  • Air $399
  • Air 2 $499
  • Pro 12.9 $799

Assuming the 1st Gen Air goes away, will we get a new Air 3 at $499? or does the Air 2 stick around at $499 or even drop to $399? If the Air 2 stays at $499 does that price the Pro 9.7" at $599? Or does the Pro 9.7" start at $499 and Air 2 drops to $399?

What are your thoughts?

If the rumored storage bump is true and it starts out at 32GB, I can see the price starting at $599.

Same price as current iPad Air 2 or i'll keep my iPad Air for another year. I am already reluctant to upgrade due to little usage and a higher price would make that a no go.

Interesting question, hadnt really thought about it. I'd guess $599 for the 9.7" Pro, $200 cheaper than the 12.9", and basically they can market it as a more professional alternative to the more consumer focused Air 2, for $100 more.
Air 2 would stay at $499 (and [maybe] Air 1 at $399.) I really think that Apple needs to keep the Air 2 around cause it is a very great tablet, typing on it right now ;) Not everyone wants a Pro device, most people looking for/using an iPad are simply consuming media (although I'll mention I do textbooks and sometimes even write papers for school on my Air 2 without issue)
That's my guess.

Makes sense. $599 for 9.7-inch Pro starting at 32GB. Keeping Air 2 at $499, or even better releasing a simple upgrade to it with A9, faster touch ID, upgraded WiFi & LTE and release it as Air 3 for $499 and push Air 2 to the $399 category.

Great....they're killing me with LTE only being available on the highest end model. They did this with the iPad pro and I was kind of nervous they'd do the same thing with the standard iPad. And they went ahead and did it. Damnit, damnit, damnit. :(

So now what should have cost me about $700-$750 or whatever will be closer to $900 bucks. For an iPad. Fail.

Tablet sales are slowing, people aren't upgrading, etc, etc. that's what you keep hearing. So....why would they do this? Ahh fooey. Guess I'm out then.
