I can get an iPad Air 5 for $68 more than a Air 4. This particular iPad will be a mostly for content consumption and an upgrade from an iPad 7th gen, which is feeling a bit sluggish in Safari these days.

I’m tilting towards the Air 5 for its 2x RAM and 2x storage speed. I don’t think A14 v M1 is a factor for how I’ll use this iPad. I also don’t care about “future proofing” because I don’t believe that’s a real thing. There will always be new innovations down the road and I’ll want them.

So my question is (especially for those familiar w/ the Air 4 & 5) is the 5 a better experience in Safari to warrant spending the extra $68?

Personally I would pay the extra $68 (£52) and get the newer Air 5. The 8GB RAM alone is worth it for sure for your use case. The power of the M1 is also a massive bonus that is hard to ignore, as well as the centre stage camera when doing conference/family calls etc.

Enjoy! As a 7th gen owner who's also noticing a bit of lag on Safari, I'm interested to note that the difference is "stunning" as you said. I'm shopping all kinds of tech at the moment, including a potential replacement for my iPad. Again, enjoy your new iPad!

$68 is an insignificant amount of money when it comes to iPad Air purchases.
