So I had nick gate for the iPhone 5 and had many issues with the iPhone 5 until a late exchange where the chamfered edge actually held up in a case. I did notice my wedding ring was potentially damaging the iPhone 5 chamfered edge. My iPad mini went for a while with just a SmartCover, then I added a hard shell to be safe.

I absolutely hate the SmartCase and want to switch to a Smart Cover w/o a back until a Belkin Pre-order Sheer Shell arrives.

How are the iPad Air chamfered edges holding up now that its almost a week?

How are you protecting the chamfered edge?

Is there a way to use / hold the iPad air to prevent damage to the chamfered edge?

Smart Cover only here, naked back. No damage, looks brand new. I don't baby it either.

I don't know about the Air, but the chamfered edge on my iPad mini has held up well over the past 8 months or so.

Yeah I've been wondering too. So far so good for me though. I just got a Smart Cover finally delivered today too. Seems to offer a minimal amount of protection to that surface.

I have the Apple iPad Air case, so my edges are fully protected. No damage. I have the Apple case for my iPhone 5s as well. These cases compliment the look of my iPhone and iPad, and offer good cosmetic protection. If you go caseless, more likely than not it is just a matter of time before you get nicks.

I'm using the Apple SmartCase, but it's really bulky and defeats the purpose of the Air.

I have a Smart Cover and Belkin sheer shell and the chamfer is fine

Where did you get the sheer shield so early?

Yes i use bubble wrap works great

I have a Smart Cover. I do not obsess over it. It is an appliance not a work of art that needs to be guarded.

I just use it on a day to day basis, and in a couple of years get a new one.

Good shout. I'm trying this too - normally buy Piel Frama cases but these guys now come in at £100 and add a fair amount of bulk.

Dont get too crazy about it. We only keep these devices one to three years anyway. I have no protection at all, only a sleeve to carry it around. Air is lightweight and a piece of art. Why ruin this?

I have the Belkin Sheer Shield (which is really good by the way) however I really did enjoy using the Air with no shield or smartcover as the lightness is incredible. However it slipped though my hands a few times (caught it in time) so I just cant risk it.

smart cover here, no issues. I had my iPad3 for 2 years with just a smart cover and didn't have any problems so I went the same route again.

I like being able to quickly detach it when I want to go "naked."

Smart Cover only right now on my Air. I am adding a clear shell back whenever it comes in, mainly because I like to drop/slide my devices around. I like to use them and not care about scratching them up. My iPhones have all been nekkid and love it. They still look new when I got rid of them however my 5 had a meeting with the ground and has a few scratches and dents. Still wouldn't change it. It's a phone. Screen is beautiful and it's going to be replaced with a 5S.

Enjoy your devices, don't baby them. :D

this is my attitude as well. the first scratch will set you free. i can see putting a screen protector on there as that can break if you drop it, but otherwise - who cares? in my experience, devices with cases end up getting scratches from the dust and detritus that gets trapped under the protection layer anyway so might as well enjoy.

now, if you have kids that may be another story ;)
