iPad iPad Air locked to Sprint?

I live outside US and I have this iPad Air 64GB that reads Sprint on the Settings. It won't use our GSM SIMs and I wonder if this is in order since I have read here tht iPads are NEVER locked to carriers

All of the iPads are unlocked and should work with other carrier SIM cards.
