Hi all,

I’ve had a really strange experience this week, both mine and my Sons iPad Airs have both stopped charging.

Mine is the Gen 5, and my Son’s is a Gen 4.

It seems really strange that both iPads are in a really good condition and have been well looked after but yet both all of a sudden won’t charge.

I’ve taken then to Apple Genius Bar today and they’ve said that they both have a faulty charging port.

Because of this they wanted me to pay £459 and £409 to replace the whole iPads as they don’t repair the charging points.

Has anyone else experienced a non charging fault on their iPad Air recently?

Seems suspicious to me that this happens all of a sudden.

I really like Apple Products and have the Phone, iPad, Watch and MacBook but hate how they treat customers with their repair terms and conditions.

They’re not cheap, so you expect them to last.

Hopefully I can get an aftermarket repair, I’ve got nothing to lose at this point, but would have preferred it if Apple could have done the repair. I was thinking £80 for each one that I would have been happy with, but not the ridiculous money they wanted.

Sometimes it happens. Maybe both got exposed to liquid, moisture or dirt. Is the charger working for other devices? What about the cables? Try cleaning the tips and charging ports with alcohol wipes.

Are they going to replace with latest iPad model or similar to yours?

Charging cables or bricks might be the problem and could have fried the ports due to some malfunction or bad design (usual for cheap, non-Apple chargers). Try different ones or charge from laptop/computer port instead
