Just in case you were wondering, the iPad Air smart case adds about 50% weight to the device ( I weighed it, 1lb 7.4oz ... 128GB Air WiFi/4G ). Certainly noticeable. Thinking of returning it and seeking alternatives.

thank you i was looking for this info.

that is pretty horrible though it defeats a large part of the ipad air benefit by making it the same weight as the old ipad.

anyone know a very light weight case that will cover the ipad? i dont care about the smart cover, just the case because as nice as the naked ipad looks it's horrible holding it in your hand = too slippery.

I'm using it naked at the moment and is actually quite grippy.

Smart cover seems like the perfect compromise.
  • Light weight
  • Protects the back when you place it on a surface
  • Protects the screen when it is in your bag/backpack
  • Makes the iPad easier to hold with one hand (better grip)

For my previous iPads and my mini, I've always gone with the Smart Cover and belkin snap shield combo. I may have to check this out for the Air instead.
