My iPad Air has begun to separate on the left hand side of the screen. I bought it as a clearance item and it clearly had been repaired at some point (thus I think leading to the separation). As I got it for a really good price it really hasn't been an issue. It works fine with this being more of a cosmetic issue. Or so I thought. Today I picked up a 9.7" iPad Pro for my sister and it feels so much thinner as it does not have this separation (I am aware it is physically thinner but that's not the reason). With this is mind I decided to resolve the issue of my iPad Air screen separation.
I've been researching how to disassemble it and it appears fairly straightforward. Heat up the adhesive securing the digitizer, remove four screws for the screen and then separate them out by removing a few more screws. This is about the extent I believe I'll have to disassemble the device to resolve the problem.
My question is: Has anyone ever done this before? If so are there any gotchas to watch out for that aren't addressed in the numerous teardowns I've watched / read? My main concern is reassembly...once I correct whatever is popping up to cause the screen / digitizer to separate how do I ensure the digitizer is secure? Will the existing adhesive work? Do I merely heat it up once reassembled and that should be sufficient to properly secure the digitizer?
One thing to mention is I do not need to do this. The device works perfectly. While I want to fix this issue I don't need to so I want to avoid damaging the unit if at all possible.
