Hi everyone,

Plan to go to my first Apple launch to get an iPad Air. Any advice on what times to get there and where to park?

Anyone else planning on going? :D

Been wanting to go to a launch for years but this is the first year where my schedule allows me to!

Yes, however, I'm planning on getting there around 4am, so the car park won't be open at that time.

I know I probably won't need to get there that early, but I've got the whole weekend off, so it should be fun! :)

OH I didn't realise it didn't open until a certain time.

There is an open air car park 5 minutes walk (if that) from West Quay, could park there?

thinking of doing the same getting there for about 4am, with a nice thick coat and a flask of coffee! wondering where to park myself at that time

Albion Place is the name of the car park I was thinking of.

It is on castle street behind the Taste of Thailand restaurant SO14 2BX, it is really a 5 minute (if that) walk from West Quay's lower ground entrance.

I imagine stock will be pretty good for the iPad air to be honest so yeah i think you'll be fine.its my first time queuing though.

The stock levels for the Air have already been confirmed by Apple as plenty. In other words, if you arrive at 9am you won't need to queue to get your fix :)

queue

Whilst there is going to be plenty of stock don't expect to wander in at 9am and get one, there will be a substantial queue as this store serves a large area and its very small. You'll be waiting a good few hours as the queues snake around the mall by midday for most launches.

I'm going to drive over around 3.45 from portsmouth, so should be there by 0415. As someone said the WestQuay carpark doesn't open till 5.30am. MLAM has posted a better parking location above if you're arriving early

Good god that's early.
This will be my first time queuing.have been to a launch before?

Which is the westquay multi storey?
Is it the one across the road next to ikea or the one under the main shops?

Never been to a launch before, i have a lot of spare time now, thats why it ties in nicely, plus I stay up till 4am to watch NFL games so my body clock is used to it. Going to drive over after the game finishes. The Multistorey is the one near John Lewis

Which model is everyone planning on getting? Looking at 64GB LTE myself. I've camped out a couple of launches in the past, but they were all in Melbourne, Australia (i'm from Aus). First time attending a launch overseas. Should be fun :)

I'm thinking 128GB WiFi myself, i'm torn between that and the 64GB LTE.

I guess it depends on how much you travel about. Wifi hotspots are plentiful these days though. I commute very often so LTE is pretty much mandatory for me. Mind you, if you plan on using your iPad with iWork's iCloud integration to sync documents between your devices, LTE might be more useful since you'll be connected more frequently.

Also driving down from Portsmouth with a friend! See you in the morning! :D

Just to let everyone know, I've emailed West Quay.

The queue will be starting from the above bar entrance (as usual). The Apple team will be handing out tickets from 6am.

Look forward to seeing everyone!

Thanks for the info! Word is that stock will be plentiful, unlike the 5S launch. Do you think screen protectors will be available also? Thanks :)
