Ipad and streaming movies question

I am planning to get the 16gb ipad1 and was wondering if I can watch movies online from a website etc. or tv episodes which are free from sites like CW etc.

Can i play divx/avi files within a browser. any app that can do this.

Also when i am out can I access my movies that are on my macbook harddrive and play it remotely on my ipad.

You can only stream from web sites that use HTML 5 video (which most of the TV sites don't). Flash (which most of them use) doesn't really work (yes, there are workarounds like iSwifter and Skyfire, but they don't work that well IMO). You can access most of the free TV content via the Hulu app, but you need a Hulu+ subscription to use it.

Yes, using the Airvideo app, or Homesharing with a VPN tunnel into your home network.
