Was on Twitter on my iPad, and a friend had sent me a private message. I opened the message, and noticed it was linking me to a Facebook app. I was hesitant, so came off the message and deleted it. Went on to Facebook, and my friend had apparently been hacked and the link that had been sent out was a Fake Facebook site that stole various credentials.

Just me opening the message on my iPad, without clicking the link is okay to both my various passwords - iTunes etc. - and my iPad in general, right?

If you didn't actually install the app you're fine. Check your Facebook app settings just to be sure.

It won't have done anything to your iPad either way, but it would have tried to spread itself through your Facebook account and possibly stolen info.
