iOS ipad-app and beamer

Hi,
I know that it is possible to program an app in order to enable the user to show the app on a monitor (f.i via a beamer).
My question is: What do I have to define in the app to enable this? Which part of the API is controlling this? What do I have to consider when using the iPad this way? Any tips? My search on google only gave me informtion about hardware and cables....
