i know its been stated that any iphone apps will work on the ipad but will ipad apps work on iphone?

No, applications written for the iPad will not work on iPhones, because the screen design will not transfer. You can zoom in on an app and make it usable, but you cannot zoom out and still be able to read it.

thats what i thought. thanks.

Yeah, it is doubtful that an app written for the iPad will work on the iPhone because of the difference in screen resolutions.

iPadCorral.com has a post on iPad apps running on iPhones and iPods. Says that some apps will be able to run on all hardware if it is configured to do so.

"Universal Applications"

A single binary can be packed with enough info to run as an iPhone or iPad app.

Curious to see how developers will use this. Wouldn't you think they would want a separate app for iPhone and iPad? (ie. charging for both)

This isn't really the same thing as iPad apps running on an iPhone. There can be three types of apps:

1. iPhone/iPod Touch apps like we are used to. They will run on these two devices plus scaled up on the iPad.

2. iPad-only apps. These will only run on the iPad.

3. Universal apps. These can run on any device, but in most cases it's not going to be the same looking app on both. There will be a smaller iPhone interface and a larger iPad interface, and presumably other features could be limited to one device or the other too. Basically it's like 1 and 2 combined into one binary. Ultimately you aren't going to get the same experience on the iPhone and iPad (unless the developer does a crappy job of making the iPad parts).

I don’t think so that all iPad apps will work on iPhone, because iPad apps are created exclusively for iPad users so that the users get the best experience. Creating an iPad app is not a tough job to do; it can be done with few simple steps with the help of a professional.

Yes!

Yes, it's is Possible! I just recently downloaded world of goo (an iPad app) and got it installed on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen. 4.2.1. It dose require to be jailbroken (Use GreenPois0n). You also must have iFile and Safari Download Manager to make your life easier while doing this.
