Just wondering - can you use the iPad 2 as a HotSpot the same way you can with an iPhone? It seems like you should be able to (3G, same iOS version, etc).

It would make sense, but I suspect the answer is no.

I'm going to the beach this summer (no Wifi access there). We'll bring my 3G iPad 2 and a Macbook. Ideally the Macbook could share the iPad's 3G connection.

Any chance this is supported?

Nope.
No Dice.
If there's a internet connection, you CAN hardline it to the MB and then make THAT your hot spot and use your ipad off that !
 
I don't think there is a jailbreak for iPad 2 yet, but I have used the 3G iPad (original) as a hotspot with mywi. It worked great and battery life was a whole lot better than iPhone.
