I've read on this forum that you can unlock the iphone 3GS running 5.0. 1 with baseband 05.16.05 and replace it with ipad baseband but then you lose the GPS functionality. But on itunes store there are versions of navigation apps which run on ipad, so does ipad has a GPS chip and if so then why do we lose GPS functionality on iphone if we replace it with the ipad version?

So its not because ipad not having a gps chip but because for some reason the gps function on ipad baseband being not compatible with iphone gps chip. Is it because ipad and iphone have different gps chips or something else?
