If I buy a iPad with 4G LTE do I have to sign up for a 4G data service? Also is the GPS still usable without having 4G data service ?

I may just want a iPad with 4G LTE for the GPS.

Add cellular service only when you need it.

Use GPS anytime.

In addition, if you check out T-Mobile, you can get a sim with 200megs free monthly. The cards cost anywhere from nothing to 10 dollars, so bide your time to get a free one...I guess that still is possible. 200 megs isn't much, but when out and about it could help you out of a jam.
