I've been using my iPad charger to charge my new iPhone 6s Plus as I've noticed it charges faster than the original iPhone charger. Would this be due to the higher voltage?. And is this safe to do?. It's more convenient for me as I'm a heavy user.

Also I've noticed the using the plug of a qualcomm charger 2.0 also charges the iPhone, again is this safe?.

Cheers guys

Using iPad charger is completely safe. Apple approves the iPad 2.1 amp charger for use on iPhones. Have been using since 5s, 6 Plus and now on 6s Plus.

I last night charged 6s Plus from zero to 70% at rate of 1% per minute, while still playing music. Took just under two hours to charge fully from zero shut down state.

Since the iPhone 6 it's been possible to fast charge with higher amperage chargers.

the two new iPhone models can also charge significantly faster when used with an iPad charging adapter rather than the smaller adapter included with the iPhones.

According to preliminary tests using a Kill-A-Watt device and OS X system information, the charging profile for the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus match that of the iPad, allowing them to charge using 2.1A. Unlike earlier iPhone models which would only draw 5W regardless of the charger being used, the new phones are capable of drawing up to 12W, allowing them to charge at a faster rate. Early feedback from owners suggest the larger iPhone 6 Plus can charge fully in approximately two hours from an iPad adapter.

so why do they put a weak charger in the box ?

Because it saves them a dollar (or two, or three, or whatever). $1 * 13,000,000 phones in the first weekend = $13,000,000. And for most people, it won't make any difference. Plus the iPhone power plug is smaller, so it goes better with a phone.

Hoping this changes with the iPhone 7. They made the earphones better with EarPods, so they should do something similar to the charger and say that the iPhone 7 supports quick-charging even though it technically has since the iPhone 6.
