I apologize if this has been addressed; I've read and searched but could not find an answer.

I have an iPad Air 2 and an iPhone 5s. Before the new iPad and the new IOS, I rarely used iMessages but I am now for convenience.

Even though all my contacts show in both Contacts apps, my iMessages aren't identified unless I do it manually. I've synced everything several times with no change. All texts are coming through, but it helps to know who the person is before I answer. (I've checked Settings but cannot find a place to turn it on; however, Contacts are enabled in all places that I see.)

Please tell me how I can fix this without adding each contact manually!

Hmm... try turning on and off iMessage. Is it possible to screenshot your contacts app contact then the message thread where the name isn't showing?

I was just dealing with this today.

What I did was go into Contacts on the iPad, and then to Groups. Verify that all relevant groups are selected and consistent between devices. Pull down on the Groups list to refresh. For me, after doing the above, even though I didn't actually make any changes, forced my contacts to update and the names are now showing up as they should.
