I have an old iPad. Honestly I don't know whether it's a 2 or not. Version 9.2. I haven't been using it a lot. Not a lot of storage - 27 GB?

I never put music on it since I still have my iPod and iPhone 6. But I go to use my iPad and it's sluggish. I look and the storage capacity is 0 and there are 9.x GB of music. WTF?? I didn't do this. It just automatically downloads music from iCloud which I don't really use anyway???? I deleted a bunch, which I hope just deletes it from the iPad and not my account.

How can I fix this from ever happening EVER? Thanks.

Yeah. I see. When I connected the iPad to my MacPro and it changed the setting to sync music. Don't know how that happened. I've never selected this for the iPad. Hm

I think you have to uncheck the sync box if you don't want this to happen when you connect, or it will happen again next time as well.

Yes. But I don't know how it got checked. I think it's checked on default.
