iPad Downloads stops while playing videos

Here is the deal. I start a hotspot connection on my iPhone and join it with my iPad. After that I use Avplayer to start a FTP server on my iPhone. Then I use Downloads HD to view and download files from iPhone. When I press the home button Downloads HD keeps downloading the file. No problem there, but when I open any video file the moment it starts to play, Downloads HD stops downloading files. That is pissing me off because I'm using my iPhone like an external wifi driver. If there is any way to download files while videos playing or any other solution someone can come up with, I'd be really glad to know.
