Looks nice...it would probably kill the resale value more than anything else. You would also be reluctant to use a case sometime down the road, which is a bit limiting, in my opinion.

I don't think it will void your applecare but it might mean that if you do have an issue with your iPad and take it into the guys at a Genius Bar, they may only repair it at no extra charge if they're sure that the engraving has not caused the iPad to be repaired.

For instance if you got a software defect it would probably be OK...

If they completely void it becuase of an engraving it's pretty dumb.

They do void it if you get it engraved from a 3rd party. Its been discussed before and Apple Geniuses have been asked and said the same thing. I remember one of my mates asked if engraving his ipod touch would void warranty and they said yes (Shame as well because his design was cool)

That's pretty rubbish...

Seems there's a lot of misinformation here, as it does not seem like a 3rd party engraving voids the warranty.

Will the custom laser engraving on my iPad be preserved?
If your original iPad was personalized by Apple and you arrange service by calling Apple Technical Support, you will be asked if you want your replacement iPad to be personalized with the same text. iPad personalization is not available in all countries or through Express Replacement Service. If your original iPad was custom laser engraved by another company, your replacement iPad will not be personalized.

Well then its probably best to ring them up to double check. My friend went to the genius bar and asked one of them directly and the stated if its by a 3rd company and not apple it will void the warranty.

thanks for all your comments.

since i'm not currently in the state right now, i"ll try to find a way to call them and confirm somehow

thanks again

I've said it before, there's nothing genius about the people who work at the apple store. I would point them to the web site.
