As noted by Gizmodo, one NASA engineer has used the iPad 2's FaceTime video conferencing feature to his advantage when creating a Halloween costume:
A very smart dude by the name of Mark Rober figured out that if you strap two iPad 2's to yourself, you can create this incredible, freaky hole effect.
The two video conferenced iPads gives the impression of a gaping hole in the middle of his torso.

Wow... that's really great.

But I guess he needs a decent WiFi connection to achieve that!

That's funny.

Too bad I don't have two iPad 2's :p

Or you could just cut a real hole in your body. It'd be a lot cheaper, not to mention more realistic.

Hahaha that's great. I'm guessing it might look better in-person, cuz the camera recording the screens makes a lot of glare

sweet, Steve is smiling down on it all!

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to... no wait, you do. Who has a spare iPad laying around?! lol Clever but, expensive costume.

If the screens were less brighter, it'd make for a pretty realistic "hole."

How hard would it be to at least line up the entrance and exit holes?

But then the illusion wouldn't work as the iPad camera is not in the middle of the iPad - the iPad camera on the rear iPad has to be in the same position as the middle of the screen on the front iPad, so the two iPads have to be offset.

meh, I thought of this as well but that would involve spending another $500 on a second iPad I don't need or borrowing someone's who probably wouldn't be willing to lend it...

Good idea but it looks pretty poor in action. Maybe he should have dimmed the screen or used the ambient lighting feature, or used something with an OLED display and fixed 60fps camera? (does such a thing even exist? With a big enough display I mean)

Now we know how Goldie Hawn did that in Death Becomes Her!

That is very cool! I would love to try it out. But... there are two things I see wrong with this:

1. You need 2 iPad 2s
2. You need 2 iPads you are willing to get messed up. I guess it would depend on the type of party but I would be a little worried the iPads would get messed up.
