Does the iPad have a built-in firewall? If not, are there any app recommendations for one?

iPad itself is fairly locked down. The positive side is not much can get on iPad and iOS. But also because of that, you are stuck at what Apple provides in terms of security and patches until your device runs out of support.

If you want to add firewall to protect your iPad, you would need to invest into devices such as raspberry pi 4 or other similar devices and run firewall on top. Unfortunately these devices usually don’t have cellular module to provide their own connection. What would be ideal is a device that can connect to the internet and run a firewall OS on top. You may need to build one yourself.

You can try apps that provide DNS firewall like AdGuard Pro/Premium, Lockdown, Disconnect, Blokada etc. They allow you to filter network connection based on popular DNS, blocklists or hostile and also add your own rules (allow/block).

iPadOS and iOS do not come with firewalls and do not need one.

This is the #1 most controversial Government takedown that has been talked about for the last 2-years.

Unlike Windows and MacOS, iPadOS and iOS are severely locked down when it comes to malwares, hacks and glitches...etc. This is why Apple commands a 30% App store fee. No user can install anything outside the App Store [and hopefully never will]

While Apple does issues security updates, the issues that have come up require a physical action by the users or physical access to the device [ie, text message scams or email] The general public is unaffected

It is next to impossible to infect an iPad or iPhone. So, why is this so controversial.

The US Gov't as well as the EU do not accept that Apple devices have close to NSA level encryption and demand that the OS is gutted and opened for everyone. Posing the largest security risk in tech history.

If this becomes a reality, then Yes. MacAfee antivirus will "enter the chat"

Microsoft Defender and various other anti-virus things are on Android and from what I can see, can never protect against or over-ride user stupidity that leads to authorising malware. At least on the iOS side, it’s all taken care of even if it leaves us limited in other ways.
