My ipad works great including wifi ..... except when.....

When I restart, no connection. I simply go select my home wifi connection (which has already remembered the password) and done!

So why doesn't it remember it already? Known networks will be connected to automatically??? :(

I'm having this exact same problem. Ideas?

Same thing here. Sorry I don't have a fix, but ever since iOS4.2, my iPad has taken on a different personality.
Synching problems, a few crashing apps, and a generally slower response time; not a big fan of iOS4.2 so far.

Well, I had all sorts of problems with my Wi-Fi when I first got my iPad (and this is pre-iOS 4.2) in terms of connecting to my home router - sometimes it did, sometimes it wouldn't and when it did it would forget the connection after being put to sleep.

The cure for my problems turned out - bizarrely - to be changing my WPA password. For some reason, my iPad just didn't like the original, because since I've done that I've never had another problem - it always connects as soon as it's in range, and no issues when coming out of sleep.

Don't know whether this will help you guys, but it's gotta be worth a try. Do think there is something slightly tempermental about the iPad's Wi-Fi anyway, though, even before 4.2 came out - my 1st gen Touch's is still better than it.
