Hi guys,

recently i restored my iPad and re-applied the back-up
will re-installing Apps i got the message that VLC could not be installed
(a quick google told me the App was pulled from the store... (Sad but ok.)

The problem now is that all the video's that were on my iPad via the VLC App are invisible (About 20GB) they are displayed in "others" (overige) :)

Normally you go to Apps and below you select your App and delete the files
but since the App isn't there... No way to delete them.

Anyone got a solution???

thx

do you still VLC downloaded in iTunes? if so you can re-install VLC. it might pick up the hidden files. if not you might have to restore the iPad as a new device and not use the backup...

It is a great player, but sad to say i do not have it in my library anymore.
My guess is it got deleted when it was pulled because i did not touch it in the itunes library.

@iisforiphone: i would greatly appreciate it if you tried to mail it to me,
itunes should stores app in

C:\DATA\#~user name~#\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications

or if you saved you library to another location it should be there.
if you would be so kind, senderke(~at~)hotmail(~dot~)com
;)
thanks thanks thanks

It wont work, unless you've jailbroken your iPad and have a patched MobileInstallation file (a la AppSync).

what exactly wont work? reinstalling apps not from the store?
or installing a *.ipa file that originated from another pc??

thx for educating me ;)

Installing an IPA which you (your account) didn't download from the App Store, so both :p

Well if the 22GB of used space is bothering you then restore the iPad as a new device and load only the stuff you want onto it...

yes,
i guess i'll do that when i have a few days time.

todo:

- make a list of current apps
- make a list of currently synced artists
- make a list of podcasts, books currently synced
- make a list of all documents shared with other apps
- backup all settings, bookmarks
- download video's that were converted for iPad
am i missing anything????

VLC is available via Cydia. Might I suggest a search? That is if you still want to go JB.

Did you get every settled? I recently downloaded all my music from my ipod onto my mac because my harddrive went bad. I used a script in terminal that displayed hidden files, perhaps you could use that to show the files and delete them?

Here's the script.

Launch Terminal, located at /Applications/Utilities/.

Type or copy/paste the following commands. Press the return key after you enter each line.

- defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

- killall Finder

Then to hide them again,

- defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE

- killall Finder

thank you all for the help.

it is settled now.
i found an old itunes library backup i made last year. and it still contained VLC.ipa
just had to drag it into itunes and the app is installed again (and so are the movies)

otherwise i would have gone for the script/terminal option thx tho ;)
