i ordered my iPad at the end of may 2010, it worked fine initially till August 2010, I travelled to egypt and for some reason the iPad was left unused for more than a year. nearly six weeks ago. all this time it was kept safe and secure in its own leather case. when i took it out and plugged it in it own wall charger, and pressed the home button it shows the apple logo and if i keep pressing it will show "plug to iTunes sign". however, at the moment i unplugged it from the wall charger in order to connect it to the itune it goes dead "black screen" and the iTunes won't recognize it. if you leave it for hours it won't charge or who any sign of life while connected to the computer. my simple logic suggested it will be the battery that has been affected by being unused for long time. I took it to apple dealer in cairo they tested it in their service center and told me it is a faulty motherboard and not the battery. when i inquired more as i believe it should be the battery, they said that it gave them an error number nine "9" which indicate faulty motherboard. i was surprised as it has been only used for short time, left unused for more than a year, never dropped and never had water spilled on it. it is outside the warranty . i couldn't understand how the motherboard will fail in relatively short time. it was suggested it could be manufacturing issue, I don't really know. anybody knows how to replace it through apple out of warranty service. i couldn't find the link on apple site only the legal documents.. thanks
