Hey,

So I have an iPad 2, running iOS 5.1.1, not jailbroken for over a year.

The problem with it is that whenever I turn it on, I can't see what's happening on the screen, all I get is a black screen that would appear to be solely in landscape orientation. Within a few seconds of turning it on, the left side of the screen (landscape) shows a rising grey bar. The bar rises about 3 times and then the screen switches off (lock). When booting it doesn't show the Apple logo. So in most likelihood it is a hardware problem, but I can't be sure.

All I want to know, is it a hardware or software problem and can it be fixed without going to a retailer or repair shop? I want to perform a Restore but I can't due to lack of internet connection on my PC.

Everything else works fine, can't create a system backup however, because it has a passcode lock that I need to enter but can't see where it is on the screen and having to slide to unlock.

Any help is appreciated

Many thanks in advance,
