iPad II loads SD cards, Macbook Pr won't . . .

I have two game cameras that use SD cards. When I first got my Macbook Pro last November, it would load pics every time. Lately my Macbook won't load pics from either cam, but they will load onto my wife's iPad II. I can't find any "setting" to correct this - any ideas? Thanks.
