I am getting rid of my old iPad 3 and getting a new iPad. How do I backup my iMessages on my old iPad 3 and get them back on my new iPad? I looked on my iCloud and iTunes settings but did not see an option for iMessages sync or backup though I did see one for Notes,Pictures,Contacts and Emails..

Can someone help out? thanks :)

Those settings you are seeing are for *sync*, not backup. iMessages are backed up automatically -- if you did NOT want them backed up, there isn't a way to turn it off.

Thanks.. So basically even if one did not back them up and purchased a new iPad all the old iMessages would reappear back on the new iPad?

Well, you need to back up your old iPad, either in iTunes or iCloud, then when you get your new iPad, you restore from that backup. If you do that, then the old iMessages should come back. But it's not going to reappear if you didn't make a backup of your old iPad.
