I'm currently on ios 3.2.2 jailbreak with limera1n.
I want to upgrade to 4.2.1.
I've downloaded the firmware and redsn0w.
My question is, do I need to update through iTunes first, or just use the new downloaded firmware and redsn0w

Any help would be appreciated

Just seen I've posted this in the wrong section

You need to update the iPad to stock 4.2.1 first, then use rensn0w and remember, it is a tethered jailbreak so anytime you need to reboot the iPad you need to use redsn0w again and choose the "just boot tethered just now" option... That will include the reboot after the jailbreak is installed!
You will have to reboot a couple more times to get the basic jb apps on there, but after that, reboots are few and far between on an iPad. Enjoy!
