iPad JB for the latest version, should I go through the trouble??

Hi all,

I have an old version ipad I that has been used for about a year. Recently, I learnt that the newer 4.3.1 has multitasking function that I want to have. I don't know if it's worth to update my current version, 3. somthing. Is the new version JB reliable, and is it worth for the new version upgrade? Since I am new with JB, is there an instruction I can follow? Thanks for your help in advance.
