I have a 3rd gen iPad. Over the past year, I have had 3-4 charging cables stop working. When this happened recently, I decided to put one under the microscope to see what was going on. What I found was - in this particular case - one of the contacts had been burned away. I assume it exceeded it's per-pin current capacity. My suspicion is that when the iPad is low on charge, gets plugged in, and then continues to be used (rather than sits with the screen off) that the current draw is pretty high, and then, well, contacts get roasted. Check out the pictures, offer your opinions, and - most importantly - let me know if there is a superior aftermarket cable option out there.
Thanks,
