i have a ipad mini 2, that i had my apple id signed into to only use it for books. and i erased it and now when i try to sign into my apple id, i get an error that i need a more recent ipad os in order to use my apple id.

is there any way around it and be able to still sign into my apple id?

One thing that comes to mind was are you using a hardware key like a YubiKey? I had to remove an older device from my account to use it.

Have you tried updating the OS before signing in?

I did a quick Google search and someone said they had to remove their account recovery contact to add an older device. Perhaps you have an account recovery contact? Other than that, it should just let you sign in.

That iPad is iOS 12 max. I activated "Advanced Data Protection" for iCloud and even had to remove an iOS 15 iPhone before, even though it still gets secuity updates. Seems iOS 16 is minimum for this function.

AppStore also does not work anymore for that ID after you activated the Protection.

Maybe this is activated on a newer device for your Apple ID?
