Worth updating to iOS 8? I have one 7.1.2 and jailbroken not sure if I should update to iOS 8 or leave it on iOS 7. Is performance good? Does it seem to crash a lot. Is it slower or more snappier than 7.1.2. Was thinking of selling it and getting a mini 2 not sure though

Not unless you want to turn that Mini into a paperweight. Stay with iOS 7. :)

Hi,

I have this exact same question, but my first generation mini is running iOS 6.0.1. Is there any way to still install iOS7?

I had my original mini running iOS 8 before I recently sold it. On the update to 8.1, it actually crapped out and I had to DFU restore it. Loving my new mini, but I wish I'd stayed with iOS 7 on the original.

The only reason that I upgraded the original to iOS 8 in the first place was for Continuity and SMS relay from my iPhone 6.

I'm probably going to sell my mini and get the retina mini 2

iPad Mini first gen iOS 8

I currently have iOS 8.1 jailbroken on my iPad mini. I updated for the continuity features which I enjoy and use all the time, especially sms relay and calling through the iPad. I figured it would most likely take a performance hit, but not as much as you'd think. I did start over from a new device, so that was an initial pain, but it's absolutely ok now. Battery life did take a hit, as I was getting 2 days of use out of it on iOS 7.1.2 and now only getting a day. I don't like that at all, but I'm dealing. I'm very happy to have my jailbreak back for the Untrusted Hosts Blocker which I can't live without anymore for web surfing, as well as SwipeSelection for the keyboard. I also have my 4S jailbroken for tethering on my unlimited plan. So basically, if you really want those iOS 8 features and now with the jailbreak, it's ok. I hear 8.1.1 is supposed to bring iPad 2 fixes which could basically mean A5 device fixes, but it also patches the jailbreak, so that's something else to consider. The choice is yours!

Leave it in iOS 6. I made a mistake of updating it to iOS 7 and regret it.

This should tell you everything you need to know about updating to iOS 8, even on the mini 2 and 3 (I know 3 doesn't have a choice.)
