All iPads iPad Mini to iPad Air 2?

Currently got an iPad mini 1st gen and was looking to get an Air 2, is this a significant jump? Would I be possibly be better holding out until Air 3 (or whatever it will be called!) Also a refurbished Air was something I was looking at.
