I just bought my two kids an iPad Mini each. These devices only have WiFi. Can these two devices somehow network wirelessly with each other directly, creating a LAN so they can play a game with each other (Minecraft).

When at home they can communicate via the household wireless router. However what about when we are away on holiday or travelling in the car? Can the two devices network with each other directly?

If this cannot be done, could my wife's new iPad Air (4G) be used as a central router?

Doesn't Minecraft PE (the one that runs on the iPad) require an internet connection to play multiplayer (on Realms)? (Unlike the desktop version).

If your wife's iPad has hotspot she can turn on the hotspot and have the kids iPads connect to it. I've done it before.

Networking

Not sure, maybe I should check a Minecraft forum?

You absolutely can play over the same wifi network. I play on an 1st Gen iPad and my boys play on minis.

We love to play and the new update changes everything.
