Will an unopened ipad mini be of any value in the near future? Thinking about just picking up a 16G and storing it.. Good or bad idea?

Probably useless. The only thing worth saving is something that totally changes an industry ..eg original iPhone.

I'm guessing you could probably make a bit of a profit if you held on to it until around December 20-24

Yeah, every now and then they pop up on eBay and sell for around that price.
