iPad Ipad mini, why 1024x1024?

Hello guys, I was just wondering. Why is it that most wallpapers for the ipad mini bring this resolution? Shouldn't it be 768x1024? Am I missing something here?

The iPad mini, similar to any other iPad, boxes the wallpaper according to vertical/horizontal viewing dimensions. Take a look at any ipad wallpaper website with preview features and see how an ipad makes a square wallpaper look when in horizontal and when in vertical orientation.
