Been thinking about getting a VZ enabled iPad mini and possibly using it as a VOIP phone as well. I like the idea of the VZ model supporting the European LTE bands as I travel internationally a fair amount and would likely purchase local SIMs when doing so. I also like the fact that VZ allows tethering for free. Wouldn't use this a lot, but having available on occasion is a great bonus.

However I'm not crazy about VZ's data plan pricing. I think I would typically use 2-3 GB per month. So just over their $30 plan limit but under the $50 one. I like how AT&T has the $30 3GB plan, but they don't offer tethering. I see T-mobile has a $35 3.5 GB "Month Pass" data plan. I live in Minneapolis which I believe is one of the markets where T-mobile has refarmed spectrum that supports iPhone data....so should work with iPad as well? I know it would be at 3G speeds but could probably live with that. Does anyone know if putting a T-mobile nano sim in the iPad mini would allow tethering to be enabled? If so, that could be my perfect solution.
