Is the ipad mini just called "ipad mini" or ipad 4?

And before the iPad 4 came out they were calling the new iPad the iPad 3. It's the same thing.
Original iPad - iPad
Second iPad - iPad 2
Third iPad - iPad
Fourth iPad - iPad
I can see it getting a little confusing by the time we get to the fifth or sixth if Apple is just calling it the iPad.
Was the 3rd Gen iPad marketed as iPad with Retina Display? I know that it HAD the retina Display, but I could not remember if the Apple website and other retail outlets used it in the past when addressing the device. I have noticed it more since the recent keynote.
It may not have been mentioned as prominently on Apple's site like the new - new one is but I'm fairly certain it was marketed that way.
