so, I've been searching the forums for an answer to my question but haven't found it, so excuse me if I missed it

I've been using a couple of music programs that can use an audio input sound source. Being a DJ, I used the old trick of using my headphones as a microphone, which is only useful in that I can use one to speak into and the other in my ear.

What would be nice is if either the audio input could be done through the data port so that the audio out could be routed through the iPad's speaker.

I ask because I made a nice vocoder and it would be really fun to use the iPad as a portable vocoder.

Of course, there's other purposes to this, but I have not found an accessory that allows for audio input through the data port.

Any suggestions are welcomed.
