has anybody tried using the verizon lte sim card from their phone (with unlimited cell data plan) in their new ipad? If so, did the data connect and work with no problem?

Once I get my ipad today I'll give you a heads up tonight(I'm coming from a iPhone 4s)

I know for a fact that you need to put a 4G sim in, i called verizon last week and they sent me one free of charge. I trimmed it down now i just gotta back the iphone up, format it, switch it off, activate the sim via 1-800 see if it works on the ipad if it does then i'll have to activate a new line of service on my family plan. Sure it'll cost me $40 but it beats $30 for 2gb with LTE speeds IMO. I'll just hotspot for my iphone.

I tried my LTE VZW sim on an AT&T ipad and no luck as it knows it isn't the right carrier. A few folks have reported that you can put an AT&T sim in verizon iPads and it works (3G that is).

sadly the verizon sim swap does not work :(. Strange as i have an extra line on my family plan with unlimited data, that I swapped the LTE sim into a mifi and it worked no problem. Same sim into a galaxy tab 10.1 works no problem. Ipad it says i need to subscribe, then when I click subscribe it says this sim is already active on a subscription that can not be managed on this device. Such a shame. Oh well atelast the mifi swap still works :) might sell this and get a wifi only version now.

edit: got it working. Put your verizon LTE sim in, goto settings / general / reset
/ subscriber services

Reprovision, then reset account (it will bring you to the red silder to turn off), turn off ipad, back on. Wait a bit and then LTE should appear :)

Online My Verizon: still shows the mifi (which shows on the acocunt but is still a smartphone add a line unlimited plan)

Enjoy.

Sweet Thanks! Gonna try this when I get a few minutes. Hope it sticks. I'd love unlimited 4G on iPad :-D

I have a verizon 4g lte mifi. I just cut that sim and it works perfectly in the iPad, hotspot and all!

See i don't have a real MiFi plan, so not sure if that matters but I can't find the hotspot option anywhere on my ipad. Am I just losing it? Where in settings is it.

edit: found it, was just trying to do too many things at once here at work / play with ipad :) that i overlooked it.

I have a Verizon 4GLTE Samsung Charge with the old unlimited data plan.

When I spoke to Verizon they swore up and down that you could not use that plan with the new iPad. But I've also learned that often they dont really know what works and what doesnt.

Are other people indeed able to use their phone sim directly in the iPad?

I do not have a mifi and wonder if maybe the fact that audiofx has previously used his sim in a mifi changed something.

I ended up having to do your process too. I lost lte and had to use your steps to get it back.

This is exactly what happened to my friends iPad. We put in a 4G Verizon SIM from MiFi (after using a SIM cutter) and all it shows is 3G and we get the same message. I'll have him try out your instructions.

That's exactly what we did but got the same bad results as audiofx

did you follow my edited steps to reset network settings?

Can someone report as to returning the sim to their phone and confirming that it still works there after being in the iPad - both for data and voice?

And for those without a mifi - what does the information in My Verizon show while the iPad is connected?

EDIT: Okay, I bit the bullet and tried it myself since my iPad was just delivered.
IT WORKS.

As described, I did have to go into Settings / General/ Reset / Subscriber Services / Reprovision Account
(but I did not get the red button to reset).

The Reprovision Account option appeared to do nothing, but after power cycling it does come up and connects to LTE right away.

When I check in My Verizion online, it shows correctly that I have an iPad as my current device.

Powering it down, switching the sim back to my Samsung Charge it comes up and connects right away as well. With that active, My Verizon shows the phone. Both data and voice work fine on the phone after the sim has been in the iPad.

Returning the sim to the iPad, I find that (so far) I do not need to Reprovision. It looks like I can swap the sim between the phone and the iPad and just use whichever device its in.

Joy.

I do not see the Hotspot icon anywhere, and searching for it on the iPad does not find it. I'm okay with that. Having the ability to use my unlimited 4G plan on either device is good enough for me.

Did all this.. mine was acting up (sim card, finding service, etc.)but its working now. As for your hotspot just to be sure you are looking under settings/general/network correct? thats where hotspot is for me.

Heads up

I switch my iphone family plan to a 4g sim into the ipad (which worked) and on my verizon page it shows my ipad. I had forgotten to take my text plan off before putting in the sim and when I click change my plan on the website it states i must upgrade my device..

So if you plan to do what i did change your plan first.

Ah... There is the hotspot. After turning it on it also appears at the top level in the settings.

Okay but this actually makes me feel a little strange because I know it's a feature that I would have to pay to use on my phone.

Passcode?

I am getting asked for a passcode. What is my passcode? How do I get it? Has anyone else had this problem?
