ipad overriding itunes music playlist?

Hi,

I was wondering how can I stop ipad from syncing it's playlist onto my itunes playlist? One time I deleted a bunch of playlist on my ipad, and when i synced it to my computer, it deleted the playlists on my computer to match when it had on my ipad.
