ipad Personal Hotspot Tips and Tricks Help?

Does anyone know any tips for the best way to do this? Some questions

1) Easy to setup but when i try and reconnect at a later time it doesn't automatically register and need to type in the Wifi pwd all over again, is this what should be happening?
2) Does the ipad screen have to be on for you to continue tethering? I haven't tested extensively but sometimes the connection dropped if you had inactivity on your laptop and the screen on the ipad went off which required you to reconnect.

Any other tips would be appreciated

What connection method are you using? I use WiFi and it does remember the network so when I flip on Personal Hotspot, my devices automatically connect (Assuming there are no other WiFi networks to connect to).
