iPad Phone App Keypad Function Issue

I decide to use the new phone app on my iPad Pro to call a medical provider. The call went through with no issues, however I got a voice menu option that required me to tap a number for the specific service I wanted. Tapping on the only keypad that is available in that app was not recognized by the system. I eventually just had to hang up and place the call from my phone instead. Has anyone used the app in such a situation?
