Hi All,

So my Dad was in a Best Buy today and saw an iPad Pro 12.9 Inch 64GB Silver Geek Squad Refurb that looked overall in pretty good shape for $155 plus tax. He was wondering if you all think this would be a good idea to get or knowing its age and storage just to skip overall? If anyone has any input in either way good or bad he would appreciate it.

As always with Apple its impossible to know when they will drop support, but my guess is that this devices will be supported for at least 1 1/2 years, but most likley 2 1/2 years with software updates (security updates).

It has 4GB och ram and since 3GB devices most likely will get iPadOS 19 this will get it too. Its not always down to ram but its one factor.

Its a good device with a large screen for a decent price so i'd say go for it.

its a large screen with promotion Face ID and good speakers, for that 155 as long as it works its a steal and supports Apple Pencil. It's a perfect complementary iPad for its price, it's cheaper than a pair of AirPods.

Apple already dropped support for the A10X/4GB 2017 iPad Pro while the A10/3GB 2019 iPad is still supported on iPadOS 18.

I honestly wouldn't expect the 2018 Pro to get the next major iPadOS update but it should still get critical security updates for a while.

Still, that's a very nice price for a 13" iPad with A12X. My only concern is how's the battery health.

The 2018 WILL get iPadOS 19 and it will stop there. Why am I certain about it? Because all previous generation pros have received 7 OS updates and the 2018 one has only had 6. And OS updates has been the only costant criterium over the past 10+ years. All air and pro get 7 OS updates, and all base iPads get 5. RAM, SOC etc. don't matter. That's why A10X with 4GB RAM lost support while A10 with 3 in the iPad 7 didn't, as I had predicted, with several member here saying it was impossible...

There has been a few odd one getting 8 releases, I think the Air 2 is one of those. Think there is one or two phones as well that got more and a few less. Will be interesting to see if they will stick to the same philosophy in the future. Especially since they have been offering different RAM sizes in the same year model on models such as the M1 iPads

Depends what you want to do with it. If you just want to watch YouTube, use for social media and to manage a few emails then yes - great buy

No, there have been no odd ones, the Air 2 got 7 updates exactly like the others, actually it started the trend. Phones are a different story, they don't follow the same path.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! He went back to the store and got it, it was still in stock. When he went to checkout the cashier said if he would have seen that price, he would have bought it!

I helped him update it to the new os, it was still on iPad os 17.1. He said he will mainly just surf the web and watch videos on it. Hes not much into hard core games unless solitaire and jigsaw puzzles count!

But it seemed to be in the wrong box as the serial number / model number did not match. Ends up it is the same generation and storage but also has celluar too! It shows its IMEI and shows the add celluar plan option. I know he wont get a ceullar plan for it, but thought that even makes it a better deal!

Nice one, now your dad has a GPS built in to the device (cellular means GPS support).
Get him on the latest iPadOS so he has all the security patches and good case.
Got my mum the Zugu case, its sturdy and gives good protection but adds a bit of bulk, the built in stand is appreciated
