iPad Pro iPad Pro 12.9 - gmail switched to mobile view

Up until recently, gmail used to show up in its standard desktop browser mode on my ipad.
Since last week, it has changed to a mobile view on safari.

Clicking on desktop view switches it to the really old html mode.
While the mobile view os fine on my phone or even ipad mini but its ridiculously suboptimal on the large ipad.

I have tried deleting website data for google but that doesn’t seem to have helped.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Do you have any content blockers or extensions of any kind installed? Try disabling them on the site and see. They can do weird things on occasion.
