My new M1 11” iPad Pro is experiencing pretty significant battery drain. With Bluetooth and cellular off and just browsing safari on WiFi it’s dropping 1% every 1.5 minutes. No videos or anything but forum browsing. My work iPad is a 2020 iPad Pro 11” and lasts around 10 hours. Under the same circumstances it drops 1% every 6.5 minutes or so. anyone notice this as well? Does it take a bit for the battery to settle or maybe something else is going on. I’m going to try a reboot and see if that helps but at this rate the battery will last a couple hours of just web browsing and is definitely not right. Any tips would be appreciated.

Something must have been stuck in the background because it’s noticeably better after the reboot. Ill continue to monitor it and see how often it happens. But feeling better now that it seems more normal.

Had the same issue with my 12.9”. I did a hard reset and then literally ran it until it died with screen on and then let it complete a full charge and now I’m running normal as 3-6% per hour burned depending on settings and what I’m doing.

It has to do with the M1 chip being significantly more power-hungry than the A12Z chip.

That's not actually true, the A12Z is a 15 watt part, the M1 is a 12 to 15 watt part. Now, there are probably gate leakage issues with the 5nm process that might lead to possibly reduced efficiency, but technically the M1 does not draw more power than the A12Z.

Be careful with social media rumors.

For future reference, you don't need to calibrate the newer batteries.

Glad it’s working better now. for reference, mine has had about 4.5-5 hours of usage, and is at 60%.

Been doing some more tests when the battery was draining quickly again. The new iPad seems fine when its not in the magic keyboard. When using the magic keyboard just to browse the web the battery is about 50% less than when using the ipad without the keyboard. I connected the magic keyboard to my 2020 iPad Pro 11” and noticed the same 50% or more battery reduction. The good news is that my 2021 iPad Pro is fine and the battery is actually a little better than my 2020. So that leads to the magic keyboard being the culprit. Has anyone experienced this as well? Could it just be a defective magic keyboard? What’s the normal amount of extra battery drain when using the magic keyboard? I also did the test with the backlit keyboard on at about 20% so not crazy bright.
