i currently use a headphone amp (FiiO Mont Blanc) to power a set of Sennheiser HD600 headphones; I'm currently considering buying a DAC, but am unsure if a DAC is worth the expense, and I can't find any info on which DAC is used in the iPad Pro 9.7; to my ears, everything (music, movies, etc.) sounds fine.

Thanks! That's been my gut feeling, as well; with the amp I'm using with these headphones, I can't imagine that the sound could be any cleaner that what I'm hearing. I may just upgrade my amp to a Schiit Magni 2.

It's the analog implementation that matters IMO since recent DACs are very linear in frequency response and any sound coloration will be affected by amplifiers (especially Tube amps) and of course transducers.
